From our family's garage to world renowned sustainable wood and concrete coatings

The problem that started our journey was the unsafe chemical formulas most stain companies use.

Prior to 1996, we were a group of custom builders and wood treating professionals with some very high-end projects to build and maintain. Some of our customers were chemically sensitive, and most of the wood sided homes were being built in extreme weather locations inherent to the great Pacific Northwest such as ski resort areas, ocean front properties, and the high desert.

We knew we had to find a better way.

Unable to find a stain product that met our needs, we decided out of necessity to develop one. We enlisted the services of some of the best independent wood finish formulators in North America and told them to spare no expense for the sake of quality. We combined our knowledge of wood, building, and design, with their coating chemistry knowledge and together we created a truly unique wood stain protectant.

Timber Pro Coatings first opened its doors in 1996 in the great Pacific Northwest. Two independently owned manufacturing facilities were set up in Portland, Oregon and Richmond BC, Canada. In these first few years we envisioned ourselves as a “wood stain microbrewery,” handcrafting a specialty wood finish that was quite unique for those times, when environmentally friendly coatings were few and far between.

From humble beginnings to where we are today.

Our start was as authentic as they come—storing product in our garage, delivering from the back of a truck, and manufacturing in a tiny corner of someone else's facility. We mixed small batches by hand, delivered them personally, and provided one-on-one guidance to every customer.

Working with a renowned biochemist from Canada, we eventually developed our own proprietary formulations, evolving beyond our initial partnership to create something uniquely ours. We were pioneers in an industry where environmental consciousness was still considered optional rather than essential.
As word spread about our exceptional products, we expanded steadily. Contractors experienced the difference in application and performance. Homeowners appreciated the reduced health concerns and lasting beauty. Architects discovered finishes that could protect their vision rather than mask it.

Today, TimberPro continues as a family-owned company dedicated to the art and science of wood protection. We've grown from that garage operation to become trusted partners for projects ranging from backyard decks to landmark commercial structures like the Portland Airport and Yale University's science building.

We didn't just want to protect wood, we wanted to honor it—creating finishes that reveal nature's beauty while preventing harm to the environment nor the people who enjoy it. That mission hasn't changed in 35 years.

Waterborne oil-based technology

At the heart of many TimberPro products is our signature waterborne oil-based technology—a revolutionary approach that combines the best aspects of traditional oil finishes with water-based safety and convenience.

This technology represents the perfect balance—finishes that perform like premium oils but clean up with soap and water, contain minimal VOCs, and won't endanger your family or the environment.
Deep penetration
Plant-based oils penetrate wood fibers for superior protection
Plant-Based Ingredients
We use renewable, plant-derived oils and resins instead of petroleum derivatives
Water as carrier
Significantly reduce VOCs that contribute to air pollution and health issues
Enhanced performance
Superior UV protection and weather resistance for maximum durability

Beyond “eco-friendly”

Many companies claim to be "green," but at TimberPro, sustainability isn't a marketing strategy—it's been our foundation since day one. Born from a need to protect both wood and people, our commitment to environmental responsibility runs through every aspect of our operation.

We regularly reassess our formulations and processes against the latest environmental standards, working to make each generation of products more sustainable than the last. This commitment to ongoing improvement ensures that choosing TimberPro means choosing the future of wood protection.
